Students from Los Cerros won best delegation award at Model United Nations

Thirteen students represented the school at MUNUS 2018, held on the campus of Universidad de La Sabana.

For the second consecutive year, our delegation won the title of "Best School Delegation" at the Model United Nations, Universidad de La Sabana.

Around 400 students participated in the model, both from schools and universities, including institutions such as Gimnasio Iragua, Colegio San Tarsicio, Universidad de Los Andes, Universidad del Rosario, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, among others. Topics such as arms trafficking and capital flight in Africa, the conflict between Sudan and South Sudan, the reform of the military vote in Colombia and the Clone Wars, a theme inspired by the Star Wars movies, were discussed.

In addition, seven students were recognized for their important participations: Francisco Torres and Juan José Velásquez, best delegates; Mateo Rodríguez, outstanding delegate; Nicolás Villaneda, Juan David Sánchez and Nicolás Aponte, honorable mention; and Juan Pablo Bonilla, oral mention.

For the Los Cerros delegation that participated in this important event, it is a space that responds to the school's effort to increase the academic experiences of students both nationally and abroad.

"First of all, a big thank you to my classmates and our sponsor, Juan David Vargas (graduating class of 2017), who were a great support during the Model United Nations. I would like to emphasize that "MUNUS 2018" was a great experience for all of us and, personally, I consider that to each and every one of us it served us a lot to grow as delegates and as people. It is clear that these kinds of activities help the student to push themselves in a meaningful way and also help them to have a greater sense of belonging and a great love for the school. Finally, it only remains for me to invite everyone to participate in the United Nations extracurricular and to support all these initiatives that leave the name of the school high", said Sebastián Márquez, from the tenth grade B class.
